Hikari Audio, a Tokyo-based audio technology brand, specializes in high-end speakers and headphones for audiophiles. They approached Sonder to elevate their digital presence to match the sophistication of their products. With a reputation for precision engineering and minimalist Japanese design, Hikari wanted a website that would showcase the artistry behind their products while educating users about their technological innovations.
Challenges
The challenge was twofold: first, to balance the technical storytelling of audio engineering with the emotional appeal of music and lifestyle. Second, to create a design that aligned with the brand’s Japanese heritage—minimal, precise, and refined—while still engaging global audiences. Lastly, product pages needed to demonstrate the quality of craftsmanship without users physically experiencing the sound.
Solutions
We developed a UX strategy that blended emotion with education. High-resolution imagery highlighted the materiality and craftsmanship of each product, while interactive elements explained their acoustic innovations. The interface leaned heavily into Japanese design principles—grids, whitespace, and understated elegance—allowing the products to shine. Branding was extended into motion design, with subtle audio-inspired animations creating a sense of rhythm and flow throughout the site.
Outcomes
The new digital identity elevated Hikari Audio into an international contender, with glowing feedback from both customers and industry critics. The redesign not only boosted online sales but also created a platform for storytelling, helping users understand the depth of innovation behind each product.
